Deleting your Bitte account
Effective from: 4 September 2026
Deleting your Bitte account
This page explains how a Bitte account is deleted, what happens to the information attached to it, and who is able to ask.
It covers the Bitte Merchants app (restaurant owners, managers, waiters and kitchen staff), the Bitte Delivery app (couriers), and diner accounts on bitte.uk.
Which kind of account do you have?
Bitte has two very different kinds, and the answer differs.
Diner accounts
If you order food or book a table through Bitte, the account is yours. You can delete it yourself, at any time, from Profile → Delete account in the Bitte app or on bitte.uk.
Deleting removes your name, contact details, saved addresses, chat history and notification tokens. Your past orders remain in the restaurant's records in a form that no longer identifies you, because a restaurant has to keep its own sales and tax records — we cannot delete their books, and neither can you.
Staff and courier accounts
If you use Bitte Merchants or Bitte Delivery, your account was created for you — by the restaurant that employs you, or by Bitte. Neither app offers sign-up, and that is deliberate.
It follows that the account is not only yours to delete. It is how your employer records who took an order, who counted the till and who made a delivery. If you could remove it from your own phone, you would also be removing part of their operating record — sometimes mid-service.
So:
- A restaurant owner can delete their own Bitte account from within Bitte Merchants. Doing so ends the account and the restaurant's access with it.
- Staff and couriers are removed by the account owner: the restaurant manager or owner does this from the dashboard, under Staff.
- If you cannot reach them, or you have left the business, write to us at privacy@bitte.uk from the address on the account and we will action it. You do not need your employer's permission to exercise your rights.
What is removed, and what is kept
When a staff or courier account is closed:
Removed — your name, email address, telephone number, profile photograph, push notification tokens, and your ability to sign in. Where the account is a diner account, chat messages and saved addresses go with it.
Kept, and why — the record that a person held a role and performed an action. A shift that was cashed up, an order that was accepted, a delivery that was completed: these stay in the restaurant's records because they are the restaurant's accounts, not yours, and UK law requires a business to keep them. After deletion they no longer carry your contact details.
Timing. Accounts are actioned within 30 days of the request, and usually the same working day. Backups are retained on a rolling 14-day cycle and are overwritten in the ordinary course; we do not restore a deleted account from one.
Deleting the app is not deleting the account
Removing Bitte Merchants or Bitte Delivery from your phone signs you out. It does not close the account or delete anything held about you. Use one of the routes above.
Your other rights
Deletion is one of several rights you have under UK data protection law. You can also ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or object to particular processing. Our Privacy Policy sets those out in full, and privacy@bitte.uk reaches the same place for any of them.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle a request, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
